Purging
I've mentioned before, I think, that I hate to throw anything away.
I remember an incident in West Virginia, where my former boyfriend finally had enough of our closets holding the recycling in overflowing bags that were just waiting to be taken to the recycling center (no reliable curb service in Morgantown). It was a huge fight because I didn't want to get rid of anything that could be recycled, but he had had enough. Time to go in the trash.
Funny, once it was gone, I didn't miss it at all!
On Sunday I finally realized that I had too much clutter, and that my clutter was getting in the way of my well-being. I should say, that I really don't have that much stuff--there are not piles and piles of useless things, but there is still too much stuff around--like that huge printer sitting on my desk that doesn't work anymore. OK, I couldn't throw it away, but I put it away in storage. I did throw away my broken, hand-me-down dvd player (my roommate has since bought a new one).
The best feeling was transferring all my cds from the jewel cases to the huge cd binder (keeping the liner notes). We don't have a cd holder in the apt, so they were all sitting/overflowing in a small wooden crate and piled up on the speakers. No more! Hello clean floor!
Last night was the closet--2 trashbags full of clothes, and 4 1/2 grocery bags full of shoes, all getting donated tonight.
Letting go feels so great!
What I stored:
broken printer
broken lap top and its functioning speakers
What I donated:
2 bags of clothes (1 suit, 3 pairs shorts, dress shirts, t-shirts, and tank tops)
4 1/2 bags of shoes (sandals, clodhoppers, heels, sneakers, etc. )
What I threw away:
300 cd jewel cases
broken shoes
150 magazines (recycled)
broken dvd player
old bills/letters/paperwork.
I'm free!
