Carter's Junk

I stole this link from a comment posted on thriftybitch. www.carterjunk.com is a site dedicated to the written works of Mary Randolph Carter-Berg, who chronicles her adventures in yard saling and promotes the benefits of junk. Her website has lots of photos and a journal that is updated less than my blog (I'm not such a slacker!), but it's pretty inspiring.

Her many books include American Junk, Garden Junk, Kitchen Junk, and Big City Junk shown here.
Carter Junk also has an email list you can join, but I haven't received a thing yet.

Enjoy...

Miss Thrifty's Picks, 9/23

After a number of weekends working at the Quiet Valley Ranch, playing in Houston, and enjoying/enduring the ACL fest, I'm finally back to normal (sort of!). It looks like there are a few good sales this weekend. Here are my picks for South Austin...

1. Multi-Rollergirl sale, Sat 7am, 4623 S. 2nd St (near S. First and St. Elmo). This promises everything but the kitchen sink. What caught my eye: Fake ficus trees! Here's the link: http://austin.craigslist.org

2. Lots of Awesomeness sale, Sat. 8am (weather permitting), 06 Jinx Avenue off Manchaca/Redd St. A multi-family sale with a lot of stuff. What caught my eye: Acoustic tiles for music studios... Here's the link: http://austin.craigslist.org/gms/210430348.html.

3. Huge Vintage Sale, FRI & Sat, 7am, somewhere in Travis Heights. If you can find this sale, it looks worth checking out. Hopefully, they'll have some of the cool stuff left. Check out the ad for some pictures: http://austin.craigslist.org/gms/210148093.html

Have a great weekend and Happy Saling!

PS--I tried to map these out, but garagemaps isn't working so well this week...

LL Marketplace open this weekend!

Well, it's Labor Day Weekend, so I'm off to the Kerrville Wine & Music Festival in about an hour. No yard saling for me this weekend.

I've read that holiday weekends are bad times for yard sales and looking at Craigslist ads, there aren't many good ones listed...

However, LL Marketplace is open, which is always a good thing.

Have a great & THRIFTY weekend!
Miss Thrifty

From the LL Marketplace mailing list:
Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that we will be having a sale this Saturday. We will be sorting more material on Friday, and I don't even know what is in those boxes. It will be a surprise to all of us on Saturday. The rest of what we have is listed below (from our ad on craigslist).

Come at 8:00 AM to see some great chairs, desks, dining tables/chairs, LP’s, comic books, several sets of dishes, china, crystal, barware, unusual books, jewelry, watches, DVD’s, VHS tapes, books on tape, collectibles, dolls, chests, dressers, buffets, camping items, sports equipment (including golf clubs and rods and reels), kitchen appliances, an old fashioned secretary (desk), recliner, artwork, paintings, stamp collections, coin collections, antique dressers, and so much more. We plan to stay open until 4:00.

Linda
